Women in Wine in the Napa Valley
Women's History Month gives us the perfect opportunity to reflect on the contributions of women here in the Napa Valley community to our wine industry. While we can't give a shout-out to all of those who work in grape growing, winemaking, winery management, hospitality, marketing, sales, logistics, compliance, and so many more facets of the industry we wanted to acknowledge some women who work close to us here at SENZA Hotel and some who are standard bearers in the winemaking sphere.
Allison Doran - Hill Family Estate
Allison's first vintage at Hill Family was in 2001 and she has been a mainstay ever since and she crafts a wonderful selection of wines that runs the spectrum from white, through rosé, and into red and recently they introduced a sparkling wine.

Ashley Hepworth - Joseph Phelps
Joseph Phelps is considered one of the heritage wineries in the Napa Valley given that it was founded in 1973. Ashley has been at Phelps since 1999 when she arrived for a harvest internship from the restaurant industry, and liked it so much she's still there. She worked her way up the winemaking ladder and in 2008 was promoted to winemaker and is responsible for all of the Joseph Phelps Napa Valley wines.

Carmel Greenberg - Clos du Val
Israeli born Carmel fell in love with wine while working at a French restaurant in Tel Aviv. Since then her winemaking journey has taken her through a number of highly respected Napa Valley wineries including Cakebread, Buccella, Dominus Estate and ultimately to Clos du Val where she was appointed Winemaker in 2021.

Cathy Corison - Corison Wines
Cathy is considered one of the most respected winemakers in Napa Valley where she crafts her wines with organically farmed grapes and traditional winemaking techniques. Cathy founded her eponymous winery in 1987 and she has been the recipient of numerous awards for her wines over the decades.

Heidi Barrett
Heidi was called the "First Lady of Wine" by wine critic Robert Parker who has awarded her wines 100 points five times. In addition to her own La Sirena wines Heidi is a winemaking consultant and makes wines for many Napa Valley wineries including Paradigm Winery. Fanteaca, and Amuse Bouche.
Kari Auringer - Silver Trident Winery
Kari was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, and was sucked into the world of wine through wine lists while working at an ad agency in Dallas. Kari found her way to Napa Valley and was involved in crafting a number of outstanding "cult" wines over the years and she joined Silver Trident Winery for its first vintage in 2009. In addition to her work at Silver Trident, Kari also makes wines for a number of other clients including Cornerstone Cellars where she highlighted her culinary skills during the pandemic.

Megan Gunderson - HALL Wines
Megan's Napa Valley career began in 2001 as an intern at Robert Mondavi Winery. Following stints at St. Supery Vineyards and Dominus Estates Megan joined HALL Wines in 2005 as Enologist and rose through the ranks to Vice President of Winemaking, leading the wine program for the three, family-owned brands, HALL, WALT, and BACA Wines in 2018.
